If you recall your lessons from the Old Testament, Ezra was a direct descendant of Aaron the chief priest (Ezra 7:1-5). He was also a scribe and scholar and part of the second wave of Jews returning from exile in Babylon (458 BC). An interesting story on the trouble he had in getting the Temple rebuilt.
